History of the Caucus
The House Asian Caucus is a very young caucus, with the first Asian Americans elected to the House of Representatives in 2010. Representative Tackey Chan, Representative Donald Wong, and Representative Paul Schmid were all elected in 2010 and became the founding members of the caucus.
The caucus has since expanded. In 2011, Representative Keiko Orrall became the first Asian woman to serve in the House of Representatives. Representative Rady Mom was elected in 2014 becoming the first Cambodian-American elected to a state legislature in the country. In 2018, Representative Maria Robinson and Representative Tram Nguyen, became the first Korean-American and Vietnamese-American woman, respectively, to serve in the General Court. Representatives Erika Uyterhoeven and Vanna Howard were both elected in 2020. Representative Howard is the first Cambodian-American woman to serve in the General Court.
